About this map
A daily view of water conditions for ponds and open water across the
contiguous US, accumulated over the selected trailing window. Three views:
- Balance — whether recent weather has added water (blue)
or removed it (warm colors): rainfall minus evaporation.
- Rainfall — how much rain fell over the window.
- Evaporation — estimated open-water loss over the window.
Reading the map
- Switch the window to see shorter or longer trends; tap an area for its value range.
- Units can be switched between inches and millimeters in the legend.
Good to know
- Values are regional estimates for open water, updated daily — a planning aid, not a substitute for on-site measurement.
- An individual pond can differ with local shade, inflow, runoff, and vegetation.
