How It Works

Three steps, a few minutes, and the only thing you need is a photo.

Behind the scenes the tool does two things a catalog photo cannot. First, it calibrates scale: it finds known-size objects in your photo — a dock walkway, a boat, a gazebo, a person — and back-solves feet per pixel across the water surface, so a 31-foot-wide pattern is drawn 31 feet wide where you placed it. Second, it checks its own work: after rendering, it measures the spray it drew against the stated size and re-renders if the result lands outside tolerance. The spray, splash, and float are generated to match the lighting in your scene; everything outside the fountain stays pixel-for-pixel your photo.

Decorative, Aerating, or Aerator? Start Here

Kasco makes three kinds of floating unit, and the right one depends on whether you are buying a show, a show that also works, or a workhorse. The visualizer covers the first two; the third is on our aeration guides.

An honest word on fountains and aeration

One of the most common mistakes pond owners make is buying a fountain to fix a water-quality problem. Fountains and other surface units circulate only the top 3–6 feet of water. In a pond deeper than about 6 feet that stratifies in summer, the bottom layer stays stagnant, oxygen-depleted, and toxic no matter what is running on top — and that bottom layer is where fish kills, phosphorus release, and muck build-up start. Bottom-diffused aeration mixes the whole water column; a fountain does not. If your pond is shallow, a VFX or surface aerator can be the right tool. If it is deep, put bottom aeration first and add the fountain because you want one — it is an excellent addition to a well-aerated pond. There is one thing every fountain does reliably: mosquito larvae cannot develop in moving water, so a fountain in the shallow, warm corner where they breed is a genuine help.

How to Choose the Right Size Fountain for Your Pond

Horsepower on a decorative fountain is not an acres-per-HP calculation the way it is for aeration. It is a display size decision, and the visualizer exists because the numbers on a spec sheet are hard to picture. Work through these five levers — most of them you can answer from the preview.

1. Pattern width against pond width. Every pattern's published width is in the tables below, from a 5 ft Birch on a 3/4 HP to an 80 ft Magnolia on a 7.5 HP. Wind carries spray well beyond the pattern's landing ring, so a display that reaches the shoreline in the preview will be wetting the bank on a breezy day. We recommend leaving clear water on every side of the pattern, and placing the fountain where the prevailing wind blows spray across the pond rather than toward a patio, a dock, or a neighbor.
2. Height against viewing distance. Tall, narrow patterns — Sequoia, Spruce, Redwood — read from across a lake and from the road; wide, low ones — Willow, Linden, Balsam, Cypress — are more graceful close up. A pattern that fills the frame on a phone screen can vanish from the deck 300 feet away. The preview from where you actually sit is the honest answer.
3. Water depth at the float. Kasco lists a minimum operating depth of 17.5–28 inches for J Series fountains depending on the model, and 17.5 inches for the smaller VFX units, rising to 19–26 inches on the larger ones. The intake is under the float, so measure the spot where it will sit, not the deepest point.
4. Power at the shore. The 3/4 and 1 HP J Series and VFX units run on standard 120 V single-phase power; 2 HP and up need 208–240 V; the 7.5 HP J Series is three-phase only. Every unit ships with a GFCI-protected control panel and cord, and Kasco offers cords from 50 to 500 feet. Measure from where the panel will mount to where the fountain will float, and round up — the cord runs along the bottom and up to the float.
5. Room to change your mind. J Series units include five nozzles and accept premium nozzles, so the pattern is never a permanent decision. Horsepower is. If you are torn between two sizes, preview both at the same placement and look at the result from your usual vantage point before you settle.

J Series Spray Patterns, With Real Dimensions

Every J Series fountain ships with five interchangeable nozzles. The 3/4 and 1 HP units get a small-unit set and the 2 HP and larger units get a large-unit set; Linden and Birch appear in both. Dimensions below are Kasco's published height × width in feet, and they are the exact numbers the visualizer renders.

  A low, wide weeping dome — dozens of fine streams arc outward and rain down in a circular curtain. The softest pattern.

  Sequoia 3/4 & 1 HP · 13×8 to 18×11 ft

  One concentrated vertical column, about twice as tall as it is wide, with a soft crown of mist at the peak.

  A wide, low, open fan of thin arcing jets with sky visible between them — airy and lacy, two to three times wider than tall.

  A full, dense plume of churning white water like a geyser — only a little taller than it is wide, frothy from base to top.

  Three distinct horizontal tiers, widest at the bottom, stacked like a pagoda. Roughly twice as wide as it is tall.

  A very tall, thin feathered column — three to four times taller than wide — that spreads into a tapered crown like a spruce top.

  The tallest and narrowest pattern: a pencil-thin column that breaks into spray only at the very peak. Up to 36 ft on a 7.5 HP.

Premium nozzles (sold separately)

Kasco's premium nozzles twist-and-lock onto any J Series unit and are sold one nozzle at a time. Four fit the 3/4 and 1 HP small kit; all six fit 2 HP and larger. These are also in the visualizer — select the model, then scroll the pattern list.

Two premium patterns are worth calling out. Magnolia is the widest display Kasco makes — up to 80 ft on a 7.5 HP — a very wide, low fan of individual arcs. Fern is the one pattern that does not spray in a full circle: thirteen evenly spaced streams in a single flat plane, made for narrow ponds and canals where a 360° pattern would land on both banks.

J Series Specifications at a Glance

Every J Series package includes the motor unit, float, bottom screen, five nozzles, a control panel with GFCI protection, mooring lines, and the power cord. The 5 and 7.5 HP units are built with solid stainless steel legs, and all units are ETL approved to UL and CSA standards. WaterGlow LED lighting kits attach to the float with snap-on clips and are sold separately.
